visited by Wakefield CAMRA, 17 January 2009

Spire Brewery at Staveley was the third brewery visited on their day in Derbyshire by workers at Wakefield CAMRA's beer festival. The brewery is housed in two separate units on the same industrial estate. The one pictured here is the actual brewhouse. From the outside it looks like ten thousand other industrial units and in January darkness fell before it was possible to take an exterior shot as the first business was as usual the welcome drink. The brewery website has lots of photos of the building. We shared the hospitality area with a rugby team from Bakewell who had been there all day making a special "Tweed" brew as their prize in a charity draw.
Pictured is founder David McLaren, a former secondary school music teacher.

The brew plant is standard Porter Brewing, albeit large version -a ten barrel one.

Here's the merry Spire Team with the commemorative certificate marking our visit.

These photos and many more including merry Wakefield and other Yorkshire CAMRA members enjoying Spire hospitality can be seen at higher resolution on this Picasa Web album.
